Most of the photographs that you see on the website, as well as the many that I have in my catalog, are available as prints. I print up to 16 inches, on the short side, using Epson Ultrachrome inks. I now like to print on Canson PrintMaking Rag, a traditional, smooth matte paper. In the past I used to print on Canson Baryta Photographique, which is a semi-gloss paper (that they market as appearing similar to papers used in the darkroom) and this is still available as an option if you prefer (or if the photograph looks better).
Larger prints are produced in editions. When the first order for a particular photograph/size is received, I print 3 copies, at that size, crop, color, using the same paper, printer, ink and profile. This is not a limited edition, in the sense used for engravings, but more like editions in books. Each print is signed and numbered, and accompanied with a certificate giving the full details. Prices start at $145. Shipping, and tax if you live in Michigan, are extra.
The smallest prints, on 8.5 x 11 inch paper, are available in unlimited editions with prices starting at $37.50, plus sales tax for orders shipped to Michigan, plus shipping. Single prints are made on demand.
Please contact me with the name (or type) of the photograph you are interested in and I will get back to you with specifics.
I crop my photographs to match traditional formats of whole plate or 16×9 (or occasionally the even more cinematic 2.35:1), irrespective of portrait or landscape orientation, which gives print sizes of (approximately):
8 1/2 x 6 1/2, 12 x 9 1/8, 17 x 13 inches, with
10 x 5 5/8, 14 1/4 x 8, 20 x 11 1/4 for panorama
and margins between 3/4 and 2 1/2 inches,
using an appropriate sheet of Canson paper.
Obviously I hope you will like your purchase. Having said that, we know there are too many variables – between me looking at the full file on my computer, you looking at a small JPEG on your computer, and you looking at a print in your hand, and you looking at it in its intended home – for me to know that you will always receive what you were looking for. If, for any reason, you are not happy with a print, you can return it, in as-new condition (within ninety days of receipt) and I will refund you the cost of the print.
Equally, if you like the print but realize a different size would work better, then if it is available, and you can return the original in as-new condition (within ninety days of receipt), I can send you another print for the difference in the cost plus shipping.
